What did you learn from this? Did you learn about the medium, style, technique?
I learned how long it takes to carve books holy- I learned how to properly layer and create the feeling of depth within a piece of work, in this case a book, and make it look like it has a proper and visual foreground, middle, and background.
How is this piece successful?
It's successful in visually recognizing the depth from foreground to background, but i failed in great a mid ground and it really shows in the final piece, i wish i had more time with it but damn it takes so long to cut out this book.
What are some of the things you might consider changing if you were to do it again?
Probably focus more on layering properly and showcasing a solid middle ground as well as the important fore/backgrounds, this piece looks more like a huge foreground with a huge background, no depth to it beyond that and that's something i can work on in future projects.
